Girls Map Bedroom

Remember that fabric map I made a few months ago?  It ended up in my tween nieces bedroom!

Annie Sloan Henrietta bookshelf {furniture redo}

Okay I'm going to admit something.  I am getting a little sick of pink.  All my friends promised it would happen after a few years with a girl but I doubted them.  I went from a house with three boys and no pink to an explosion of pink when E was born.  So I decided to add some purple and bought some Annie Sloan chalk paint in Henrietta.  Which come to find out is their version of pink.  I still say it's purple.  Love how it turned out.

Blue Desk {Skateboard room}

I wanted all the school aged kids to have a desk for the new school year.  I'm hoping that they will all go study quietly in their rooms every night, get straight A's and then scholarships!  A Mom can hope. B wanted his desk blue but told me he didn't want it that aqua color that I keep painting everything.  I have no idea what he could be referring to.

Do your chores!

All this summer fun is starting to wear on me!  Somedays I feel like I spend my whole day making sure all the kids in the house have fun.  Wiping up popsicle drips and washing swimsuits and making about a million sandwiches!

I got fed up last week after one more dripping swimsuit was left on the floor and I was picking up popsicle wrappers from all over the yard.  So I got to making some chore charts and our house has been so much happier this week.  I think the kids needed some work to appreciate their fun!

My Mom always said that kids need to learn step by step how to clean you can't just say "Go clean your room!" and expect anything to happen.  So growing up we had these VERY detailed step by step charts on how to clean just about every room in the house.  I can still vividly remember that the bathroom one was red because I HATED to clean the bathroom.  I made myself some this week and did it in google docs so everyone can enjoy them (Just don't print and sell them!).  I printed them on card stock and laminated them with my laminator that I bought from Amazon for $25.

Click here to go to google docs and print your own house cleaning how to.

The charts look like this and I made them for the kitchen, bedrooms, garage, living room and bathrooms.  Lots of detail so the kids know exactly what to do and what is expected of them.

The Star wars desk

The boys and I have been working on their rooms together.  My 5 year old wanted a Star Wars room.  Which worked out great because we already had the duvets that were purchased from PBkids a few years ago.   I think all little boys go through a Star Wars phase.

My Dad is a college professor and one of his big things when we were kids is that we all had a desk to study at.  I still remember going out with him and buying my first desk!  I don't know that it helped my study skills any but I do still like shopping.  I liked the idea and have been on the lookout the last few months to find all the boys their own desks.

Lime green desk

So we are moving to a new house next week!  I'm so excited because it has a yard for my kids to play in and more bedrooms.  Right now all three of our boys share a room, oh the fighting that leads to.  The best thing to do if you have to move in a few days is to repaint a bunch of furniture.  Right?  I know some of my other DIY blogger friends would totally agree at how logical that is!  I've been digging some green desks I've found on Pinterest plus a desk is small and easy to repaint later if I decide I love yellow or whatever other color is in.  The ten year old even agreed that it looked "fine" which in ten year old boy language is success when it comes to anything not skateboard or soccer related.

Most adorable bench ever, Ana-White rustic bench

I wanted a bench for the kids craft table in the office  If you have more than one kid than you can understand the glory of a bench vs a chair.  No fighting or shoving about who gets to sit on the chair. Benches have a spot for more than one bum!  Yay!

I've had Ana-White's small rustic bench on my list for awhile.  So many ways to use it.  It would be so cute in the bathroom, entry or even on the front porch.  So cute in fact I had my husband build two.  It cost less than $30 for both of them and didn't take him too much time.  Just 20 minutes (which is what I say about EVERY project).  It will just take like 20 minutes don't ya think honey?  In fact it probably took about an hour or so for each bench but he used to build houses which is why I made he so lovingly offers to do most of the woodwork at our house.  If I built the bench it would have taken 8 or 9 hours.

Ta-da! I painted one of them my favorite pink, Behr's powdered blush.

Be brave, paint your dining room furniture...

When we moved to Japan 6 years ago we had two kids.  When we came back from Japan we had 4 kids, 2 of who were almost teenagers.  This was the dining room set we had in storage.  This was it fully expanded with leaves.  Not big enough but we also had lots of other things to purchase on our move back to the states and a $1000 dining room set was not on that list.  Then I remembered this post I'd seen on Sarah's blog about painting your dining room furniture.  So I sold this set on Craigslist for $100 and started searching for a set that was big enough that I could paint.

Big girl bed...

After 13 years our house is without a crib!  We decided to say Goodbye to E's baby crib and get her a big girl bed.  She just turned 27 months old and was getting too big for the baby bed.  Goodbye pink crib!  We found it a new home and sold it through Craigslist for $80.
