Ellie’s big girl bed…

After 13 years our house is without a crib!  We decided to say Goodbye to Ellie’s baby crib and get her a big girl bed.  She just turned 27 months old and was getting too big for the baby bed.  Goodbye pink crib!  We found it a new home and sold it through Craigslist for $80.

Then we bought her big girl bed.  I got a mattress, box spring, headboard and rails for $50.  FIFTY DOLLARS!!  Woot, woot!  It took two or three weeks of searching every morning for about 5 minutes on Craigslist.  I wanted a solid wood spindly headboard and a new mattress which took patience.  It may seem gross to buy a used mattress but if you are patient there are lots of people with guest beds or beds for step kids that hardly ever get used and then do the look, smell test.  The mattress is white and looks brand new, not one smudge of dirt.  Plus we covered it in a bed bug/waterproof encasement.

The headboard was just regular stained wood and was old.  A coat of primer followed by my favorite pink Behr’s Powdered blush and Ellie has a super cute headboard!  LOVE.  Even the dust ruffle was thrifted from Goodwill for $1!

Ellie loves her new bed and sleeps SO much better.  The sheets are from Target and the bedspread is from Ikea.  I am attempting to make a super ruffly duvet cover like THIS ONE  and THIS ONE.  We’ll see how it turns out.  I’ve been ruffling up a storm.

    >It brings a tear to my eye to think of Ella big enough for a big girl bed! Super cute. You are the craftiest, thriftiest woman I know. Now, stop it, before I have to start hating you. :)
